Rising from the Ashes Revival

Recently, I had the opportunity to work with the incredible team at the Detroit Catholic, the Archdiocese of Detroit’s online publication. They asked me to photograph part of the Rising from the Ashes Revival at Huntington Place in downtown Detroit.
More than 5,000 people gathered for this inspiring day of revival. The event featured speakers such as Jeff Cavins, Fr. John Riccardo, and others. While each speaker shared a powerful message, the Eucharistic procession through downtown Detroit became the day’s most memorable moment.
After the procession, Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger blessed both the attendees and the city of Detroit. Watching thousands of people publicly witness their faith created a powerful experience that I won’t soon forget.
One moment especially stayed with me. As I photographed the procession, I overheard someone who wasn’t attending the event. They said they felt a sense of peace come over them as the Eucharist, carried in the monstrance, passed by. That brief comment reminded me how powerfully Christ’s presence can touch people, even when they least expect it.
The evening ended with a concert featuring Steve Angrisano, Sarah Kroger, and Matt Maher. Their music led the crowd in prayer and song, providing a beautiful ending to an unforgettable day.
