As a Michigan Catholic photographer, I have the opportunity to work with Catholic organizations to provide photography services tailored to their unique needs. Much like with weddings, being Catholic helps me ensure that my clients receive meaningful coverage of all the key moments—whether it’s an ordination, baptism, or, in this case, the Installation Mass of a new archbishop.
Pope Francis appointed the new Archbishop of Detroit a few months before his passing, and the Installation Mass formally installed Archbishop Edward J. Weisenburger in his new role. In March, Cardinal Christophe Pierre, the apostolic nuncio to the United States, presided over the ceremony, officially installing Archbishop Weisenburger as the sixth Archbishop of Detroit. This followed the retirement of Archbishop Allen Vigneron, who stepped down after reaching the age of 75.
The evening before the Installation Mass, on Monday, Archbishop Weisenburger led Vespers at Sacred Heart Major Seminary, followed by a light reception. Bishops, priests, deacons, seminarians, and members of the laity filled the seminary chapel for the occasion.
The following day, the Installation Mass took place at the Cathedral of the Most Blessed Sacrament in Detroit, MI. This was another packed event, with many faithful in attendance from across Michigan and beyond, offering their prayers and support.
As a Michigan Catholic photographer, I was truly grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with the amazing communications team from the Archdiocese of Detroit. Below are some images from the events. While this wasn’t a Catholic wedding, I approached it with the same dedication—ensuring the photos told a story, captured the beauty of the events, and honored their sacredness.
Please enjoy—and don’t hesitate to reach out if you’re ever in need of a Michigan Catholic photographer!
